I’ve been gone from the blog for a little while, but I have been keeping myself busy with various photography projects, a couple of shoots, staff portraits etc. I thought I’d come back and post about latest thing I’ve been so excited about, and that is FILM! I think that slowly film is making a come back whether it be through ‘toy’ holgas and dianas, or through the resurgence of professional photographers returning to film. A few of my favourite film photographers are publishing books right now - Jose Villa has his Fine Art wedding photography book coming out (I have it on pre-order
) and Jonathan Canlas has a fabulous Guide to Shooting film out now.
I was absolutely gutted to find that Jonathan Canlas will be holding his FIND (Film is not Dead) workshop in London this year but that I can’t go and it is all sold out. So I took the opportunity to snap up his FIND Guide as soon as it came out and sure enough it has given me the impetus to dive back into film again. So with my 30 year old leica in hand, a light meter and a few occasionally willing models, I’ve been experimenting with film. I love the softness and the grain, and I actually have several prints in hand instead of just digital images again! These are taken with Fuji pro 400h and Kodak portra 400. I’m still experimenting and learning to see light the old fashioned way. One thing’s for sure, I Love film – film is not dead.
Ooooo, I love film, too! Portra is my favorite color film. If you shoot any bw, Ilford films are divine. Great job on these!
Jenny, I love all of these lifestyle portraits!!!! Love the film work!
beautiful kids!! I have never seen a toy like that before. Looks so fun! Great job.
These are great!!
I recently purchased an old Zeiss Ikon and ran a roll of film through it….totally different experience not knowing how your images will turn out. I don’t have a meter, so I used the meter from my digital camera…we’ll see how they turn out. Love yours!
How fun, these are awesome!
It really inspires me when a photographer is able to capture such beautiful photos with film… nailing the exposure/color, etc, without using editing software. Maybe I’ll have to bring out my Nikon SLR and give it a go!
Film is definitely making a comeback! Love these shots.
