I can’t believe it’s been nearly a year since I wrote this post about returning to film. Well it’s been 11 months and my little love affair with film is still going strong. There have been a few changes since then, the ebook I was talking about by Jonathan Canlas last time is now an actual bona fide printed hard back book as the first picture below shows. More importantly, that camera beside it is an actual working rolleilex twin lens camera and it’s mine! This particular one was made around 1958 and is still going strong. It has the tiniest bit of fungus on the lens, but you know what, as my sample pictures below show, it really doesn’t show. The good thing is, it’s small enough I think so that when it goes in for a service, it can be easily cleaned. The word fungus on a lens used to really scare me and send me running a million miles away, but there’s no reason why this lovely piece of mechanical engineering can’t keep going for yet another 50 years after a good old clean by a proper rollei engineer. And yes, they are still around these days! So I guess the moral of the story is, go into your lofts or attics, scour flea markets and charity shops, or just go down to you local second hand camera store and get yourself an “old relic” and go out, run a film through it and have fun!
