Old Alresford Place Summer Wedding Celebrations
I would like to share this beautiful summer wedding with you all on this cold January day. Jo and Mike got married in the height of summer with all their friends and family celebrating with them first at the beautiful and welcoming St Mary’s Church in Preston Candover, then at the 18th century former rectory Old Alresford Place in Alresford, Hampshire. Their wedding is currently featured in the Dorset Wiltshire Hampshire Bride magazine so if you get the chance, do have a read of their story, but I will share a little snippet with you here, and also show more of their photos!
I was delighted to be chosen as Jo and Mike’s photographer. At our first meeting Jo had actually gone out of her way to get me some cake (I think she read how much I like my tea and cake!), and I knew then that their wedding would be full of thoughtful, meaningful touches and maybe even a few surprises! I wasn’t wrong – from the flowers and buttonholes worn in memory of grandmothers, the bridesmaid dresses made by an Aunt, cupcakes for the afternoon tea made by Mike’s Mum, the table names and settings, stationary designed by a cousin and made by Jo, the intricate photobooth also constructed and made by an Uncle, and the surprise confetti canon from their wedding car Jo and Mike’s wedding celebrations was very much a personal and family centered party. Jo and Mike’s vintage school theme and afternoon tea even celebrates the place where they met!
Throughout the wedding planning and preparations, I was aware that Jo’s mum was undergoing treatment for cancer. Everyone was so happy that she was there for the wedding, and there was a lot of celebrating, and perhaps also a few poignant moments remembering those who did not make it to the wedding.
I was very much aware how much of a privilege it was to be part of their day and celebrations. Jo’s Mum did pass away only 23 days after the wedding but I know that Jo and Mike treasure their memories and even in that difficult time, Jo took the time to write the most thoughtful thank you card. Jo and Mike, thank you for choosing me as your photographer, here’s to remembering good times in the past, and to making many more happy memories in the future.
