An interview with Sian from Amethyst Weddings
plus my top 3 reasons for hiring a wedding planner
Hello there and welcome to my latest featured wedding supplier interview which is going to be with Sian from Amethyst Weddings,a wedding planner in Hampshire. Please read on for Sian’s interview where she tells us the background to her business and she also shares her top 3 best advice for brides to be.
TELL ME ABOUT YOUR BUSINESS AND HOW YOU STARTED
I run Amethyst Weddings which provides advice and support with wedding planning and on the day coordination services for engaged couples getting married in Hampshire. Amethyst Weddings was born from an addiction to all things wedding related following my own wedding in 2008. Having had a baby boy in 2012 I had to make up my mind what I was going to do at the end of my maternity leave. I decided to start my own business and on 10th November 2012 www.amethystweddings.co.uk went live.
WHERE DO YOU GET YOUR INSPIRATION FROM?
I love bridal fashion so regularly look at new styles and trends coming up. Pinterest is a great source for pulling together ideas and I follow a few wedding blogs that inspire me too. Much to my husbands dismay I still buy wedding magazines every month.
ARE YOU SEEING ANY POPULAR TRENDS FOR 2017?
A lot of 2017 brides are hiring village halls for their reception venues just because they are essentially a blank canvas. It’s quite straightforward and cost effective to put your own stamp on this type
of venue.
Vintage is still big but I’m seeing more rustic elements come through and lots of fairylights and tealight lanterns or jars.
CAN YOU SHARE YOUR TOP 3 WEDDING ADVICE TO BRIDES AND GROOMS TO BE?
1) Don’t worry about what people tell you that you should be doing. It’s not their day. You do what you want and how you want on your wedding day.
2) Don’t sweat the small stuff, whilst details might be high on your list of priorities it’s very likely that your guests won’t notice if something is out of place.
3) Always always meet any suppliers you have short-listed before you book or pay a deposit.
WHAT’S THE BEST WAY TO CONTACT YOU?
I can be contacted via email enquiries@amethystweddings.co.uk , phone 07818226729 and you can find me on Facebook, Instagram and twitter too.
HERE ARE SOME INFORMAL QUESTIONS
What do you do to relax?
My spare time mainly consists of research for weddings, I can’t seem to stop myself. I like to read and have quite a few books about various wedding topics and always have a wedding magazine close by. I love spending time with my husband and son. My little boy loves the beach. My perfect weekend would consist of a takeaway, a bottle of wine, watching the Formula 1 on TV whilst
wearing my favourite pyjamas. If anyone wants to throw in a few cupcakes I wouldn’t complain.
Sweet or savoury?
Savoury definitely, give me a bag of cheesy wotsits instead of a chocolate bar any day.
Favourite drink/tipple?
Depends on the occasion, I like a glass of red wine, preferably French, with a home cooked meal. I’m partial to a glass (or two) of prosecco on a special occasion and on a summers evening an ice cold glass of cola with dash of dark rum hits the spot.
Favourite holiday destination?
Antigua – I went for my 30th birthday and would love to go back again. That’s where I developed my love of dark rum.
Thank you so much Sian! The photos above were taken from a combination of styled shoots which Sian and I worked on, as well as a wedding and commitment ceremony (a separate blog post will be posted about that soon). The styled shoots along with the other suppliers involved can be found here: Horsebridge Shoot, and here: Marwell Hotel Shoot.
Whilst I’m here, I thought I would also like to give you my top 3 reasons for hiring a wedding planner.
So here it is! There are so many options nowadays for where and how to have your wedding, that even the best organised people could do with a little help from a friend. If you do choose to have a wedding planner, they will have your back and more likely or not become a friend at the end of the process! I think this is particularly true if the venue you’ve chosen is a blank canvas.
- to help realise your artistic vision for your venue; planners can help source suppliers, meet & greet and help set up on the day
- to work within your budget; planners have a lot of contacts and have a realistic view of costs and budgets – they can help work to keep to your budget
- to save you some time; got an idea of what you’d like but don’t know where to start? your planner can do the research and provide you with the options
This is obviously not an exhaustive list and of course you can also hire wedding planners even if your venue is not a blank canvas. Many wedding planners have a variety of services so do take a look and see if there is something they can help with!
