Nicola and Thomas’ Summer Wedding
Relaxed garden wedding and cake ceremony in Hampshire
I’m so pleased to be able to share with you, one of the most relaxed unique weddings I’ve shot so far. I was immensely flattered and privileged to be asked to photograph Nicola and Thomas’ wedding in the summer by Nicola’s Mum Karen (one half of Vinnies Vintage Vehicles). Both Nicola and Thomas did not want too much of a fuss with regards to their photos and certainly did not want a photographer taking over! Both preferred their day to be about celebrating their union with the closest family and friends, and for them to be able to relax with them. So I had to be as unobtrusive and hands off as possible, taking lots of candid photos and using a more documentary style of photography.
The civil / legal ceremony took place at Charles Dickens’s birth place in Portsmouth, and was followed by a more personal declaration of their vows in the back garden (conducted by the celebrant Hilary Channing). The garden ceremony also included a “cake ceremony” wherein all their guests became involved in their union symbolically by bringing in their own part of the cake, and making the tiered cake during their ceremony. I loved blending into the background as much as possible, capturing all the fantastic little details that Karen and Nicola had put together.
Here are just a few of the photos taken at Sir Charles Dickens House for the civil ceremony, followed by some garden wedding photos.
They signed the legal documents on Charles Dickens’ actual desk!
