2013 Round-up on Film

2013 has turned out to be a pretty eventful year for me and I am so please to do my very first review or round-up of the year 2013 as a full time photographer!  I guess I’ve given away the biggest highlight of the year already – 2013 was the year I went full time in photography.  For the past 3 years, I’d been running a children and family portrait business alongside my other day job (I’m a qualified social worker), but there came a point early in 2013 when I had to make a decision on whether to go back to social work full time, or to launch a full time photography business.  The photography won.  So here’s a selection of images from 2013.  I tried to choose one from each month, forgive me if I post a couple more!  If any of you follow my blog regularly, you’ll know that I love to shoot on film (as well as digital), but my passion is film photography, so again, most of these are shot on film.

So this first one is rather special, shot on New Years Day and submitted to the eight by eight programme in aid of Camille’s appeal.

The month of february saw me meeting one of my photographic inspirations – CJ Nicolai.  She imparted her knowledge of light, posing, and business as well as her passion for film photography, then she let us loose on our host’s myriad of friends and family to practice our skills.  Here are some of my images from that workshop.  I also got to meet some very special friends and photographers whom I know I will follow and keep in touch with.

March was my last month being a part time photographer.  I’ve chosen another photo from last month as I don’t have any film photos from this month!

April was a fun month!  I got together with 30 other wedding photographers for a glamping trip where much fun and merriment was had by all.  This group of folks have been such a support and inspiration to me.  I’ve been very lucky to have shot with a few of them already. More photos from my blog posts here and here.

May also saw another highlight for me when I got to be a beta tester for the UK Film Lab.  I always use them now for their consistency and reliability and for their advice and guidance in the use of film.

June saw a few more weddings.  This was a lovely one by the sea in Bournemouth.

July.  I shot the opening night of The Great Barn at Titchfiled on it’s opening night as a wedding venue!

I also got to shoot a lot of groom preps.  Here’s one from Ryan’s prep (for Ange Ward Brown) when he got married to Sarah who is partly responsible for running the Hampshire Bridal Boot Sale.

September to December is my busiest time for children and family portraits but I managed to fit in this Wiltshire Autumn wedding in October (seconding for Sara Lincoln)

December was a busy time!  I shot a few more rolls of film but those won’t be back until January now, so you will all have to wait for my December installment.   In the meantime, if you’d like to see more film photos, my friend Jessica’s post on her blog this december here!

Thanks for making it this far and I look forward to 2014 which is already shaping up to be another exciting year.   Hope you all had a merry Christmas and see you in 2014.
